Help
Start here if you are new to White Room or something does not work as you expect.
Guides
- Fix light and white balance: correct colors and exposure with the Basic panel and the histogram.
- Crop, resize and export photos: frame a photo, then export one photo or a series at the size you need.
- Keep your edits safe: backup and recovery: how your browser keeps your work and how to back it up.
What your browser needs
- A recent version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Editing uses WebGL2 with floating-point rendering. If a browser lacks it, the editor says so when you import, and Back Up Edits and Restore Edits still work.
- Storage for your photos. Edits are kept in IndexedDB. Copies of originals need the Origin Private File System, which current browsers have; without it, edits are kept but you link photos to their originals again after a reload.
- JavaScript turned on. These help pages work without it; the editor does not.
In the editor, Help › About White Room Alpha shows what this browser supports and the limits of this device.
Where your photos are
White Room keeps your photos, edits and previews in your browser's storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded, and there is no account, so your work does not move to another browser or device by itself. To move it, back up your edits and restore them there, and bring the original files along.
Offline use and installing
After the editor has loaded once, your browser keeps its files, and it opens without a network connection. In the editor, Help › Offline Use shows whether this device is ready. In Chrome and Edge you can install White Room as an app; in Safari, add it to the Dock or the Home Screen.
Keyboard
Every command is in the menus, and most have a shortcut. In the editor, Help › Keyboard Shortcuts lists them for your keyboard. G opens the grid and D opens Develop.
